Main Street benefits…Building community partnerships…attracting new businesses…upper-story living…job creation…strengthening the tax base…vibrant community image…improved walkability…preserving the historic, built environment…streetscapes…new downtown investment…and hometown pride…Main Street momentum…

Designated a 2008 Main Street Iowa Community, the Woodbine program now boasts over 8 million dollars in private investment to date in the Main Street District. A 2010-11 Community Development Block Grant fueled a partnership between private business owners, the City of Woodbine, and the Main Street program’s Downtown Revitalization Façade Master Plan: nearly every building façade in the Main Street District underwent renovation and energy efficiency improvements.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority & Main Street Iowa announced Woodbine’s participation as a 2008 Green Pilot Community. One of only two rural communities in the state participating in the long term study, the City of Woodbine, in cooperation with Woodbine Main Street, strives to implement a sustainable, “green” approach to all economic and community development.

2011 CDBG Façade Master Plan

The City of Woodbine was awarded a $500,000 Downtown Revitalization Community Development Block Grant as part of a $900,000 Façade Master Plan to renovate 23 buildings in the Main Street District. This project was completed January 2012 using a partnership of City of Woodbine, individual business owners, and Woodbine Main Street.

The Main Street Four Point Approach is a community-driven, comprehensive strategy fostering economic development through historic preservation in ways that are appropriate for today’s marketplace. The Four Point Approach is implemented by annual Goals & Objectives, and Projects from each Four Point Committee staffed by local volunteers.
